The 2nd annual International Summer School on Gravitational Wave Astronomy in China

The UTB Center for Gravitational Wave Astronomy, the China West Normal University, and Nanjing University present a two-week course on signal processing and data analysis related to gravitational wave astronomy. Following on the success of the 2006 summer school held in Nanjing, this year’s school will be held at the China West Normal University (CWNU, http://www.huanglong.com/main_en.html ), which is located in Nanchong, the famous Silk City of the Sichuan Province. This school welcomes not only those students who attended the 2006 summer school, but also students and scientists/engineers interested in becoming involved in gravitational wave data analysis.

The goal of this summer school will be to introduce students to gravitational wave data analysis techniques so that students can quickly enter into ongoing research. The lectures will be aimed primarily at 1st and 2nd year graduate students. The topics covered include: an overview of the data-taking hardware and data formats relevant to the LIGO, LISA, and pulsar timing gravitational wave detection efforts; an introduction to general digital signal processing and signal detection theory; matched filtering and detection techniques relevant to gravitational wave signals; and instructions on how workshop attendees could start their own participation in gravitational wave detection research.
